Dastgir sees energy conservation plan in country’s interests
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Power Minister Khurram Dastgir said on Tuesday the conversation plan was in the country’s interest.
Mr Dastgir told a news conference following the federal cabinet meeting that no large-scale privatisation of power distribution companies (DISCOs) was currently planned; however, efforts are underway to control power sector losses, and various technical functions, including metre reading and bill collection, would be privatized.
According to Mr Dastgir, those DISCOs that are losing money are not suitable for privatization.
Clearing the air over the matter of the energy conservation plan, Mr Dastgir said it was a fact that consultations were done before taking the decision, adding that the trading community was informed on the matter.
Speaking of President Dr Arif Alvi, Mr Dastgir stated that the president stated that the power-saving plan was critical to the country’s survival.He also stated that the country would proceed through consultations.
Speaking on the measures to stop the power theft, Mr. Dastgir said the measures have been taken to stop the theft.
